The headquarter of the University of Milan is in the city centre, a few steps from the “Duomo” (the Cathedral) and the “Palazzo di Giustizia” (the Courthouse), in the historic and monumental building of the Ca’ Granda, in via Festa del Perdono 7. The Municipality of Milan, in 1913, granted the future University land at the eastern gates of the city for a “Città degli Studi” (literally, “Studies City”), a name still used not only in reference to the University, but also for the entire district that hosts it.
Built between 1915 and 1927 to offer new spaces to the increased demand for students and faculties, it now has a large concentration of universities, as well as two of the most important scientific research centres in the country, the Besta Neurological Institute and the National Cancer Institute.
In these places rich in history, the University of Milan has the headquarters of four of its scientific Faculties: Agricultural and Food Sciences, Science and Technology, Pharmacy and the School of Exercise and Sport Sciences, divided into several buildings located between Via Celoria, via Golgi and via Saldini.
The “Polo di Mediazione Linguistica e Comunicazione”, also known as Mediapolis, is a new, modern structure equipped with the most innovative technological tools for teaching, located where Sesto San Giovanni merges with the city of Milan; the structure was created as a response to the great need for space required by the Degree Course in Language Mediation and Intercultural Communication.
Our Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was moved from Milan to Lodi in 2018 to offer a stimulating environment for study and research in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Production and Veterinary Biotechnology.
The expansion project of the Lodi headquarters was led by the architect Kengo Kuma, a project in which the idea of operating with deep respect for the place takes shape.
The new headquarters has brand new facilities including an educational hospital where students gradually approach the clinical-welfare activities, in the different animal species and an experimental livestock centre to learn the different aspects of animal breeding.
